Shallow Waters, Misty Waves

“Shallow Waters, Misty Waves” seeks to uncover the unusual in the everyday, turning attention toward the subtle beauty of nature. The project draws from Finnish folk beliefs, religion, and various philosophical theories. Its dreamlike, enigmatic photographs aim to capture emotional states and mental landscapes that words often struggle to express.
 
The work examines the mysticism and strangeness of life amidst today’s fast-paced, technology-driven existence. In a world where our focus is consumed by technology and constant distractions, we no longer observe our surroundings as we once did. The environment has become mundane and overlooked. This project reflects on how the magic and mystery of life were once found in nature but are now often sought through technology. Although some of the photographs resemble AI-generated images, they were created in the moment using long shutter speeds, flashes, and color gels.
 
By paying closer attention to the small, seemingly banal aspects of our surroundings and lingering on them just a little longer, we might discover the hidden life they contain. Everything around us holds a story—something concealed, something we may have forgotten.
